Judit Reigl: Unfolding Unfolding
December 10, 2010 - March 12, 2011
Ubu Gallery presented Judit Reigl: Unfolding Unfolding, an exhibition spanning six decades of the artist’s career. Approximately fifty ink and mixed-media works were displayed from her Unfolding (1973-80), Unfolding Continued (1980-85), Ècriture d’apres musique [“Writing After Music”](1965-66), and most recent untitled (2010) series.
Considered one of the most original figures of post-World War II art, she is hailed for discarding boundaries and rules once deemed absolute. Reigl defies traditional and often antagonistic dichotomies as she obliterates the distinction between the front and back of the canvas, utilizing both sides of the work, alternates between figurative and non-objective and reconciles aspects of Surrealism and abstraction.
A catalogue produced in conjunction with the exhibition is available for purchase at the Ubu Gallery shop.
Ubu Gallery presented this exhibition in collaboration with Janos Gat Gallery.
