FIAC 2010
October 21, 2010 - October 24, 2010
Ubu Gallery is pleased to have participated in FIAC 2010. In collaboration with Galerie Sophie Scheidecker, Paris, Ubu Gallery presented a thematic exhibition focusing on Pablo Picasso’s Surrealist period in dialogue with works by other Surrealist artists.
The project joined Ubu’s focus on Surrealism with Scheidecker’s expertise in Picasso; the specialties of these two galleries naturally suggested an exploration of the short, but prolific, Surrealist period of Picasso. The presentation provided perspective into Picasso’s works from the period 1924-1935 by contextualizing them with pieces by Max Ernst, Hans Bellmer, Victor Brauner, Salvador Dalí, Joan Mirò and Alexander Calder.
Highly independent, Picasso drank of the varied artistic movements of his times and distilled these influences into a highly personal oeuvre generally recognized as one of great genius. Self-sufficient, but still sensitive to the influences and creativity of the inter-War era, Picasso was clearly touched by Surrealism, even as he denied being a part of the movement. The conversation and confrontation of the works by Picasso and these other modern masters produced both a visually arresting and historically interesting exhibition.
Ubu Gallery was located at Booth 0.E36, Grand Palais, Paris.
